Safecote
What is Safecote? Safecote is used as an additive for de-icing salt in winter maintenance of roads.
Safecote is a de-sugared molasses modified for de-icing purposes. Produced form a natural renewable source Safecote is a stabile and biodegradable product.
How does Safecote work?
Since the early nineties Safecote has been used as an additive for road salt in the United States. Safecote is well proven in the extreme snow and ice conditions of North America where it has been extensively applied. After the success in the United stated Safecote is now available in different European countries.
Safecote is not meant to replace salt as a de-icing agent. Added to salt better result can be achieved in de-icing of roads. Safecote has several advantages. Due to the viscosity of Safecote there is greater adhesion to the road surface. Less salt will be blown away. It will increase the longevity of the salt. As a result less salt can be used.
Due to its low freezing point Safecote treated salt can be used at lower temperatures.
Safecote's non-corrosive formula means it provides exceptional short-term and long-term savings on equipment and transport infrastructure.
Safecote is:
- better adhesion to road surfaces
- increased longevity
- less salt
- applicable at lower temperatures
- anticorrosive
- less road surface damage
Safecote in the Netherlands
Eurosalt supplies Safecote blended with de-icing salt, ready to use. From our warehouses we supply lots up to 30 Mt throughout the Netherlands. Safecote can be used as a prewet without the necessary investment in new equipment. Pre-wetted salt has many advantages. Less salt is needed and it offers a faster and longer performance of the de-icing salt. Spreading with pre-wetted salt before the actual ice formation will increase traffic safety and improve traffic flow. The disadvantage of pre-wetted is that it required high investments. Spreaders need to be modified or replaced. The storage or production of salt solution also required investment.
Safecote is widely accepted as an alternative for pre-wetted salt. It has the advantages of it but does not require the necessary investments. Safecote is easy to use, supplied out of stock and can be stored in the existing storage. Safecote can also be used for curative spreading at lasting winter conditions
